Another load of Alpers just arrived

Postby admin » Fri Feb 19, 2010 1:44 am

The third load of Alpers trout was delivered to Isabella Lake on Wednesday, February 17th. This load, consisting of
1,200 pounds of trophy trout, from the Inland Aquaculture Group, will complement the two loads already delivered
earlier this year in preparation of the 21st Annual Isabella Lake Fishing Derby. To help make the nation’s largest amateur
trout derby the most exciting yet, a forth load of these fish, weighing one and one half pounds and more are expected shortly before the start of the derby. These Alpers are there for the catch now, they weren't put in the holding pens for the derby. Compliments of last year's Derby success.

This year's Derby will have over $200,000 in prizes.

I am so happy to hear that. Hopefully the stocking will continue up the river and business will return to the valley.

Sorry to be such a dummy, but is an Alpers trout the same as a Rainbow trout? Also, does the new 2 trout per day and 4 in possession limits apply to lake Isabella as well as the river. Finally, is it now safe to plan a week's visit to Kernville this summer and expect some trout plants as far up as Fairview?
Thanks in advance to admin. for keeping us updated.

From viewing the regs, the 5 bag, 10 in possession still applies. They were the current regs for 2010. This applies to the river; not sure about the lake.

Robby, I hope your info. is correct, but see the next topic below concerning new fishing regulations effective March 1, 2010, That's where I got the limits of 2 per day and 4 in possession for hatchery trout.

This bag limit information is a little confusing. I believe the a little clarification would be welcomed. On page 3 of the DFG regs it says that the "STATEWIDE LIMITS have been increased / raised to 2. Not Lowered. In the DFG regs page 43 section 86 A. still states that from Lake Isabella to the Johnsondale bridge the limit is 5! Does this update truly apply to this section of the Kern River? It is my interpretation that the Key Word here is STATEWIDE limit. I am going to see if I can get some clarification in the morning and will keep you posted.

From what I understand after viewing the regs online is that the changes have already been inserted. If you notice throughout the regs that certain bodies are highlighted in blue. I would think that these are the areas that have been adjusted to reflect the adopted changes regarding bag/possession limits. It seems that the limits on the Kern have not changed at all, since, as was brought out, it would not be an increase for the Kern. At least, that how I read the regs. Hope this helps.
