I just got back from a camping trip, and during my stay the water pump broke at the kern river hatchery which resulted in them stocking of a major number of fish. They stocked right by the bridge, and at the pumphouse. I caught and released at least 60 fish yesterday (sunday), along with the many I farmed. The bridge in Kernville was hot, and as was the strecth downstream of the bridge. They put in a lot of fish, and most people were catching and releasing so there are still a lot in there. I used panther martins, salmon eggs, berkely worms in any color, and what worked best was a sinking fly called toy candy I believe, it was pink and they recomended it at the fly shop. I tell no lies, so get up there and get some fish!

Thats is great news. Almost sounds too easy. Where any of those fish planted north of the powerhouse? There was previous mention of stocking up to Fairview but never any confirmation. Would love to hear if they were. We are heading up there Thursday - Sunday! I am giddy with excitement.

Yes, I was told they did stock up to Fairview. I was also told they will start stocking ALL previous locations on the next go around. So they claim they are back in full stocking mode now. Good luck and post your trip...good or bad. It helps others make decisions on whether the gas is worth the trip. We already know the getaway from hectic daily strife is worth it.
Catch'em and enjoy.

Only had an hour to fish today so I stayed on my beach just above the bridge. Fishing is still going strong with just about everything working. Fished a couple hours yesterday for all you wanted catch and release. I really love it when they bite the spinner. Weather is as good as it gets in the mid seventis and sunny. There has also been some talk of the crappie starting to bite in the lake. I will try to verify this later.

The fishin was good at the bridge.
I was impressed by the numerous kids carrying their 10-fish stringers up/down the river.
If only we could C & R; this thing could go on for awhile

To Admin:
When the DFG stocks, do they just stock in the major camp areas?
Do they stock at various, miscellaneous locations along the 20-mile section?

I wonder how this will affect the Isabella Derby coming up next weekend.
Just checked DFG site and say this great news. This makes me really happy, This will be a good weekend
Kern Kern River from Democrat Beach to Lower Richbar (Map It)
Kern Kern River from Powerhouse #3 to Riverside Park, Kernville (Map It)
Kern Kern River from Sandy Flat to Democrat Beach (Map It)
Remember that most of the Upper Kern is Tulare County, not Kern Co. Alot of folks scan thru the planting schedule for Kern Co and wonder why the upper Kern isn being stocked. Check Tulare Co as well.

AWESOME. If my kid didnt have softball, I would so be on my way right now.
Similar situation last year in Bishop. They raised alot of fish and had no where to put them, so they kept planting PVR. IT was wide open for over a month. I kept making that 10 hour drive (round trip) each weekend 4 out of 6 weekend. It was too easy. Even Crave bait worked

A buddy and did a day run up Friday. Didn't do anything like the wide open fishing some of the others have had but it was good fishing near the park.
