Trout fishing

Even with the higher flows, the fishing remains good. Most fish are hugging the bank or eddied up behind rocks. Don't expect them to be battling the current. Water is murky so give them some color to see.
Caught 6 fish in half an hour on powerbait today. All fish were tight to the bank.

Brush creek is approximately 20 miles up river. It is beyond McNallys (Fairview) and the diversion dam but before Limestone. There is a large turnout with restrooms located right next to it.

Thank you Magic.
Apparently, Brush Creek is the farthest point on the upper Kern that the DFG is planting

Thinking more about it, I realized it actually is between Limestone Campground and the Johnsondale bridge.

I'm heading up to Kernville on Memorial Weekend. So I wanted to ask about some fishing tips for trout.

Fished the park last saturday in the am. Got 1 on powerbait. the park fills up with kooks and kids by 9 am. Caught my next 4 between Headquarters and hospital flats. Powerbait. water is moving fast! fish areas with slower moving water and plenty of rock or bank cover. thats where they hide. you gotta work for em, though. be prepared to spend the day hiking the banks, climbing through tree-cover to find un-fished sections. unless you come on a weekday, most of the known good spots will be cowded with cars. stay away from these spots. a lot of these people are drunken yokels who make an s-load of noise and throw rocks at the water once they've finished their first 6 pack. FYI: do not catch more than 5 trout per day or have more than 10 fish per license in your cooler. DFG is tossing coolers and are allowed to do so when checking your license. 1 fish over the limit = $400 minimum fine, non-contestable, and they are aching to write tickets. too small in my book. should be $1000. also, friends of the kern will be driving around and reporting litterers and vandals to the forest service and sheriff. do not trash the kern! do not bring your drunken hooligan friends to the kern! Keep it a clean safe haven for families and sportsmen alike. see you guys out there this weekend!
