Fish N Fun Report

Postby Jeff C » Tue Jul 08, 2008 6:04 pm

Here it is. The fishing is great. I landed 27 fish over the 4th of July weekend, most were really good lunkers. My pops landed 7 and he hasnt fished in over 30 years. He saw I was doing so well that he drove into town and got a license. 3 more of my buddies landed another 5 or so each. My nephew Matt who is 8 landed a monster trout, good 4 lbs+. He has never fished before and it was the largest fish caught. My neice Kelly who is 11 even hooked up one for her first ever. Just to let you know I only kept 6 out of all the fish caught so my daughter Courtney could eat. She only eats fish, no meat and I couldnt let her starve, my wife said so. We caught all these around the springhill campground area. Man there was a lot of people up there having a great time. There was one idiot who despite all the warnings still had to light his fireworks. Skyrockets no doubt. We put him check real quick with my 9mm holstered on my side and a couple of my 265 pound mexican friends. He stopped. The river was flowing good and the kids had a blast tubing. It was hot and the water was cool but it didnt stop anyone from getting wet. Couple of mild sunburns and a few leg scrapes from the rocks but we all walked away and everyone got home safe. One for the books. Ill be back at the end of August as usual. See ya

Jeff that was a great report about a fishing/camping/family reunion/new sheriff in town/swimming party trip to remember. i love the part about "POPS"running to the store after seeing the epic fishing at the camp. after reading your report i feel like jumping in the truck and heading up to the upper. i was wondering if your from L.A. or bako. why is there always at least one idiot in every crowd. fireworks on the upper Kern is just unbelievable and skyrockets too boot. reminds me of what my dad always used to say "i can fix almost anything but i cant fix STUPID" thanks for sharing Jeff. BTW Jeff we need pics . if you have never posted pics its easy . let me know if you need help with that. FISH ON

Glad you had a good time. Awesome that the lil folks got in on the action. The lil ones always catch the bigger fish!!
I am the firework idiot in the group, But I wont set them off in High Fire areas. Fireworks and the Kern are a recipe for disaster
I was at Roads End (July 4th weekend) many years ago and there was a group camping on the other side of the river. A fire broke out as they were ferrying their belongs across the water. The fire started in their camp, but the refused to accept responsibility. Helicopters were picking up water at Roads End. It was frightening to see how fast the fire crawled up and over the mountain.
I can see shooting fireworks over the lake, but not on the Upper Kern.
Glad you made it home safe. Get those fotos Up

The only thing I did was put the bait on the hook, my nephew matt landed it by himself.
We let that badboy go shortly after.

Springhill disbursed campground is just north of Corral Creek on the left heading north on MT99. If you get to Goldledge you missed it.
