Trout Stocking to Resume in October

Finally river temps are starting to drop. Flows are still very low but the hatchery feels that they can hold trout again starting next month. For now there are few + 12" sized trout in the Upper Kern at easy access points between Kernville and JDB. Most have been fished out or succumbed to high river temps since the end of June. Unfortunately beginning this year the CDFW no longer stocks trout that can reproduce so the wild trout population will be competing with larger sterile planters going forward. The long term health of wild trout stock is not promising, but soon we will be able to hook into trout that will bend your rod again.
A couple of plants will likely occur in the Upper Kern and then in mid- Oct the CDFW will concentrate on planting Bakersfield lakes.
