Kern River hot no more stocking scheduled after 4th of July

There are no stockings on the CDFW planting website for July. Several reports I have received tell me that the Kern is now +70 degrees daily all the way to the JDB and pushing 80 degrees in Kernville. Yikes!!! This is bad as there are fewer and fewer WILD trout in the river succumbing to the heat stress and they are the only trout in the river that can reproduce. The CDFW only plants sterile fish now so they don't interbreed with the natives.
More and more warm water species like squaw fish are taking over the 20 mile stretch. Bigger trout die off before smaller ones do. The new wells at the hatchery can only provide enough cool water for the incubation house and can NOT support a race of foot longs planters we all love to play with. Give the stressed trout fishery a break for the rest of the summer and go tubing :-)
Hope for better snow pack in 2015.
