Isabella action

Postby hogbygardd » Fri Aug 22, 2008 8:26 am

Going up to Isabella weekend of Aug 23rd. How is the Catfish bite and where are the hotspots for night fishing. Have been up 2 times before this summer and just caught small ones all night and my son is getting turned off on catfishing. Where can we get some good action so I can keep my son interested and keep my fishing partner..... Crappie / bluegill action during the day from the bank. We need to have a good outing this time or our fishing trips will be like pulling teeth to get my son to go...Thanks

We caught a few midsize bluegills and a few small cats. We were just harrassed all night by the small cats and couldn`t keep any bait on, they just picked it off all night.. Also noticed that close to Kissack cove in the rocky section it was just packed with minnows. Will try again next weekend but my son is getting pretty burnt out on the results, think he will be throwing in the catfishing towel soon. Hope we hit a good night soon. We were using clams and liver and anchovies.

Those are Yellow cats, usually run about a pd. or 2, they use another word your bait for awhile then take it, then you set your hook, they have a soft mouth so be careful when bringing them in.

We were up last month and fished the lake until our lodge was ready for us at 4ish. I may have posted but maybe not about the lake. I did let my two little ones fish (10 and 11yrs). Me (mom) got so tired of putting on worms that i started cutting them in pieces because in about a minute they were catching fish left and right. BUT they were about 3 inches...hahaha. Not sure if i have a picture but ill check before i sign off. Anyway, we do best with nightcrawlers and the biggest fish we did catch was a cat...about 4inches...lol. Again, they were in a hole and i got so burnt out on replacing worms since they werent up to it (yes need to teach their little butts how to do it). Ive been hooked right in the face so dont want to deal with that with the little ones...that s..t hurt...not to mention i was in johnsondale and had to drive all the way to bodfish to the hospital. It was a treble hook and all three trebles got buried in my chin and came out the bottom...needless to say, i still have that rooster tail hanging on my fishing hat. So not much advice i can give you on the lake, seems just little guys want to steal the worms and we always have prefered fishing the river.

Also, i wanted to note that when we were swimming the river we saw and caught the biggest crawfish i have ever seen, i had no idea after 20+yrs of going there that they were in the upper river...anybody see that? We let it go after the kids got a good look at it. Just checked and no pics of the little inchers from the lake.

Has any one had any luck in the French Gulch area with cats?
