Took a springtime trip to Kernville this past weekend. Great weather, gorgeous wildflowers, but so-so fishing for us. Saw lots of people catching on Isabella around French Gulch and marina. My husband caught 2, but I didn't even get a bite at the lake the whole trip. The locals said the trick is to get there early which we did (sorta). Saw lots of fish jumping, but they were not jumping on my line! They were catching on nightcrawlers and some used cheese nightcrawler combos. Hubby caught one on a red Thomas Buoyant.
We tried the lower river but it was very cloudy. The upper river was very slow during the day--no bites. However, in the evening just before it got very dark, the fish started to bite like crazy! I managed one--about 14 inches and a pound. A real beauty!
Have fun!
