Hello,

I am thinking of bear hunting Sequoia National Forest but I am not very familier with the area. Has anyone bear hunted there? Has anyone seen any bear there recently?

Thanks,

Rob

I don't hunt bear but, two of my friends do and have bagged three above Johnsondale so far this season, one was over 300#. They hunt with dogs and have several other bear hunters they hunt with. I know they also bagged three last year.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post we saw 3 bears opening weekend of the archery season and my freinds went back up the following weekend and saw a couple also. That early in the season and I wopuld imagine they are more scarce now. i was on a backpacking trip above Kernville two weeks ago and we a lot of sign but no actual bears. The bear population in Sequoia has really increased in recent years.

I also posted this in the D8 Thread:

Anybody heading up to D8 for archery? Anybody been up there recently? I'm not going up till rifle season, but was hoping to get some status reports. Since I live 5 hours away, it's not easy for me to get up there to do some scouting. I've got a Deer tag and a Bear tag that I'm hoping to fill. Planning on hunting north of Johnsondale, near Ponderosa.

I have been up scouting X10 on and off all summer. I have seen quite a few bear this year both in D8 and X10. Go high.
