Waterfowl/Upland Game Hunting

A Buddy and myself are going to be hunting Lake Isabella for the first time this weekend hoping for luck of anything since weather might be a little shotty. Hoping if anyone can give us some tips on locations and requirements of any specific area. We were looking at hunting the Southfork Wilderness Area and surrounding BLM areas but also looked at Canebrake Ecological Area past Onyx. I called the rangers and they said that no passes are needed to hunt the ecological areas. Any tips are wanted and needed! We are staying in Wofford Heights.
