If the Committee is going to try and get the lower Kern put back on the stock list, Shouldnt they also try to include the Upper Kern up the Fairview dam. There is nothing to prevent the trout planted in the lake from migrating up the river. The catfish do it when the river runs high.
This is a physical barrier that actually stops the fish, not an arbitrary line across the lake. It also gives the Committee some room for negotiation (not that they have any power) I am not being disrespectful to the committee or its members. The problem is the judge that made the ruling in the lawsuit. The judge ordered DFG to stop planting. DFG wants to plant the fish. Complaining to the DFG about the fish plants, is like complaining to the guy at the gas station for the high gas prices. It isnt their decision.

If I can sign a petition or email one of our elected officials I am willing to do so. If someone has any useful info, please post the links on this site and other fishing sites. This is a war, lets make sure we win a few battles along the way.

The ad-hoc committee is hoping to get stocking reinstated in ALL sections of the Kern river under the ban. If the info DFG gave us can't be verified as completely true then I don't see many avenues that can be pursued for reinstating the stocking program, other than the DFG getting the study done. They claim it's at least a year away.

The judge only codified the three way agreement between DFG and the two environmental groups. DFG agreed to stop stocking anywhere in California that any one of the 25 species of concern were found. They agreed so they could continue stocking in some other areas. Bottom line, DFG didn't do what they were supposed to do which was to complete the study that was ordered years ago. There is now concern that DFG may have not given us fully accurate info on their claim that they have a study showing the hardhead minnow is thriving in the Kern. Who knows? Seeing a lot of butt covering involved right now. Meanwhile the fishing concerns are not being answered on any level we are aware of. Hope it changes soon. The lake is doing great though.

I am almost afraid to ask this question:
Are they saying that native rainbows (Kern River Rainbows) will not have an impact on the Hard Head Minnow? Why would that be?

Fish and Game will not be able to hold their foot down on this one for too long. They increased the sales of fishing licenses to $41 and some change this year as well as the double rod stamp. They have told the general public that the increase in sales prices are due to the increase in stocking *efforts.* I think that if they were smart, they would limit trout in upper kern for a limit of 2 fish per person and 15" or above. If they did this, they'd only have to stock the river on very few ocassions, and people would catch more fish. It make sense, so F and G won't do it, but anyways, stick to the lake. Imma get my moneys worth out of my fishing licenses this year. I advise all of you to do the same
