DFG to STOP planting fish in the Kern

This is for real. Some tree hugger groups files a lawsuit against DFG to stop planting non native trout into waters that have fish populations that could be impacted by the trout plants. It also has to do with the red legged frog

I've been reading about this on all the forums. It is really going to hurt the Kern Valley.

This is horrible news that will have a huge economic impact on the area. I dont know what I will do during my 7 days camping trip. This will only put more pressure on the wild and native fish. I am used to a steady bite if you work at it. No more fish plants!!!
I am all for protecting the environent and conservation, But these left wing whack jobs are too much. Is this what we are going to get with more democrats. I take that comment back. This is not a political issue.
How many people WONT buy a license this year? I have a lifetime license.

Yep, it's for real. I sent out links to local Chambers and other organizations to get input and bottom line is there is nothing we can do and no one to talk to about it. This goes back to the lack of DFG to provide an impact study on the issue back in 2006. It was extended but they still haven't filed the study. The two groups that sued, under a court order to come to some kind of arrangement, met with DFG to hash out an agreement while the study is being completed. The agreement was codified by the Sacramento Judge last Friday (supposed to be this past Monday according to news articles.) The description of what applies and where is vague to say the least. Initially, it looks like Lake Isabella will be spared. However, on CBS and ABC news sites their description suggests that we will be one of the locations that will not be stocked. There is supposed to be a release of all locations in the state that will be affected sometime this week. We won't know anything for sure till that is released. I will post when we know something concrete.

Ok. Here's the latest article in the Bakersfield Californian. I'm not even going to comment on this fiasco. I've been accused of being an alarmist by some local tree huggers. I'm also including a link to a blog by an irate fisherman who is also a staff writer for the Californian.

I'm a little confused by the above referenced article. It says that all stocking will be halted in the Kern county portion of the Kern River up to the Johnsondale bridge. Isn't most of the river upstream of James Store in Tulare County? I know i've seen the sign up there but also realize that county lines can be a bit ragged.

SB, you are correct about the portion of the river above the the sign being in Tulare county. It seems that most of the news articles I've read have printed some mistakes. It's nothing new, have you ever read about a car accedent you were in and wondered if they were talking about the same one?

Tulare County starts at Riverkern, a couple of miles up from Kernville. We're going with the Kernville to Johnsondale Bridge as the valid non-stocking area description regardless of county lines.

Got some hardcore die-hards that say "If you need your fish planted to fish, you ain't fishing." The agreement says they will keep stocking the lake and lower Kern so we suggest you not abandon the area yet. Don't see much we can do so far but we aren't just going to let it drop at that. Hang in there. Maybe DFG will get that study done quickly now.
