Fish report

Sorry to say the Kern is dead. I went to PVR last weekend and did pretty good. I had not fished the area in many years, so it took a while to find the old spots, most of which have new regs. PRV was pretty good action but, they were on the small size. I had good action just below the power house, after they started to release more water. The fly fishers were doing great below the damn. I talked to two guys that just came down from crowley and they said it was great fishing, lots of No. and good size. BIRDHUNTER

Thanks' for the report. I keep hearing lots of good reports about PVR but have not made it up there. I'm planning to do a backpacking trip along the SFK soon, I'll be sure and post how we do.

I am planning to fish up in the eastern kern or inyo I was wondering what this PBR is and how to get there, I also heard that there is a good place to fish if you go up hwy 14 and when it intersects at 395 you can take a road up to the eastern Siera and there is some lakes and a river there, does anyone know the rules or acces info for this area? PVR stands for Pleasant Valley Resvoir, it is just north of Bishop. The closest road I can think of to the intersection you mentioned is 9ml canyon road up to the South Fork of the Kern but there are no lakes unless you drive all the way over and back down to Lake Isabella.

The Cottonwood Lake Basin might be the place you're thinking about. It's been a few years since I've been up there, but the access road is about 10 miles south of Lone Pine and that'll take you up to about 10000 feet. I'm fairly certain there's special regs up there because it's Golden country and probably a short season too. I hope this helps; tight lines.

You could be right but that is quite a ways from the 14-395 junction. The Cottonwoods Lake area is special regs. The season does not open there until July 1st. I've never been to the lakes before but I am doing a backpack trip up there this year for the opener with some freinds, I can hardly wait.

Is there a hike or walk-in distance to the PVR?

Does anyone have a background/experience with Rock Creek?

There is a distance to walk to PVR. I've only fished the fished from the dam end and that is about a half mile hike. I'm not sure how far the walk is from the upper end and that is where I've heard so many good reports lately. Birdhunter can probably describe that walk much better.

I've only fished Rock Creek above Mosquito Flats in the Little Lakes Valley. A great area for lots of little Brookies and a chance to visit beautiful high alpine lakes with the easiest access in the eastern Sierra. I have not heard any real reports yet this year for the Rock Creek area because the road up the canyon has just started opening up after the opener.
