To All
Got up on the upper Kern about 7:30am on Saturday and started above the dam, the water was good not to fast not to slow not to high. stopped at 4 differnt spots and got fish at everyone of them for a total of 12 fish by 10:30am (kept 3) it was a a great morning. All on salmon eggs, tried lures but they didn't want it. Then we went up to Kalso valley to get a few clay bird in on the new shotgun the wife got me for my B-day. Got stopped by the rangers and said that due to the fire there was no shooting (bummer). So Sunday am at day break went to the same spot on the upper Kern and I surprized at what I was looking at, the river had come up about a foot and looked like thick mud flowing, I mean the whole river. In 30+ plus years of fishing and hunting up there I have never seen the river look that BAD (thick black mud). I was staying in Wofford Heights and it only rained for a little while Saturday late afternoon, the river was unfishable. Went down to the lake and fished till noon and then went home (only had two bites). The lower Kern look just as bad as the upper Kern. I am trying to put pictures on here but having a little problem, I try again.
Good FIshing
I also do not know how a fish could live in that muddy water

You got to the river at the wrong time, the fire is still going and thunderstorms are still there. I was going up this next weekend, but don't know yet...

As the old saying goes: "Man, you shoulda been here last week!" We were at Rivernook for the week of 6-12 July, and the water was running clear and cool.... lots of people swimming, lots of fish coming to the beach.

Now the air, that was a different story, with the smoke and the heat spell..... but all things change with time.
